Manhunt underway after man escapes Biggar RCMP custody

Aug 21, 2026 | 9:20 AM

RCMP are searching for a man who escaped police custody in Biggar and was later charged in connection with the theft of a motorcycle that same day.

34-year-old Joshua Meszaros fled around 3 p.m. Wednesday while being transferred from the Biggar RCMP detachment into a police vehicle. He had been arrested earlier that day for allegedly breaching a release-order condition and driving while prohibited.

Officers searched for Meszaros with help from Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services and a remotely piloted aircraft system but did not find him.

About two hours after the escape, RCMP received a report that a motorcycle had been stolen from a residence in the town. Police said their investigation determined the theft occurred around 5 p.m.

Meszaros is charged with escaping lawful custody and theft under $5,000. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The stolen motorcycle is described as a CRT 250 with a black upper section, blue lower section and Rockstar Energy Drink stickers.

“If you see Joshua Meszaros, do not approach him. Report all sightings and information about the whereabouts of Joshua Meszaros, or the stolen motor bike, to your local police by calling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.”

The investigation is continuing.
