Mother nature forces changes to Canada Day plans in Prince Albert

Jun 30, 2026 | 2:05 PM

Inclement weather has impacted Prince Albert’s Canada Day activities.

Both the Royal Canadian Legion and the Prince Albert Multicultural Council have been told they must move to a different location. The ground at Kinsmen Park is simply too wet, and due to rising river levels, restrictions have been put in place along the riverbank.

In the case of the Prince Albert Multicultural Council, their afternoon and evening events have been moved to the Prince Albert Exhibition grounds, and that includes the fireworks show. Executive Director Michelle Hassler told paNOW, rain or shine, everything is a go.

“A little rain shower here or there won’t scare us and I do hope to see everybody there gathering with us,” she said.

The children’s activities will start at 4 p.m. and the opening ceremonies and stage entertainment are slated to begin around 5 p.m. The fireworks show has been scheduled to start around 10:30 p.m.

“We are very excited and we are actually just on the run today to get everything prepared for everybody for a wonderful gathering,” Hassler said.

Earlier in the day, the celebrations hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion that normally take place at Kinsmen Park, have been moved to the parking lot that is shared by the Union Centre and the Legion.

The events will still run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and to make room for the vendors, a section of 8th Street East will be closed.

Opening ceremonies will start at noon.
