LJUBLJANA — Canada’s men’s volleyball team came up just short in a back-and-forth 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-11) loss to Bulgaria on Saturday in Volleyball Nations League action.

Down 20-14 in the opening set, Canada clawed back to even it at 24-24 and win the set in extra points.

That turned out to be the theme of the match until the tiebreak when Bulgaria took a 4-0 edge and managed to hold off Canada for the win.

Bulgarian outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov led all scoring with 25 points, including two of his team’s aces. His brother, setter Simeon Nikolov, led in ace serves with five out of his total eight points from the service line.
