Lynx Northern Healthcare Classic raises $80,000 towards Equip the Vic

Golfers were able to avoid the rain to have some fun and raise $80,452 together for the Boreal Healthcare Foundation during Thursday’s Lynx Northern Classic tournament.

The annual event, presented by Brandt Tractor AG, improved on the $76,060 total raised last year through a mix of registration fees, sponsorship, and donations. CEO of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation, Cody Barnett shared his appreciation to the community.

“Every golfer, sponsor, donor, and supporter who took part in The Lynx helped move Equip the Vic forward in a very real way. This campaign is about readiness, access, and the future of care for our entire region, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to stand behind it.”

While the golf tournament supporting the Victoria Hospital has been going on for many years, this is the third year under the Boreal Healthcare Foundation’s umbrella, and the third time the event has been held at Cooke Municipal Golf Course. In those three years, the total raised has grown each year.

The money is going directly to the Equip the Vic campaign, which is aimed at supplying the tools and technology for the Victoria Hospital expansion so that it’s ready for use the day the build is done. The construction is nearing completion, the cranes have moved, and now the work switches from finishing the building construction to actually turning it into a hospital.

“That happens when the rooms are equipped, when healthcare teams have the tools and technology they need, and when patients and families can receive the care they deserve closer to home.”

It was announced at the beginning of the month that the hospital has hit the 50 per cent complete mark, and is still on pace to open in the spring of 2028.

“The new Victoria Hospital expansion represents an extraordinary step forward for healthcare in northern Saskatchewan, but the building itself is only the beginning.”

Other sponsors of the event included Ruszkowski Enterprises, Lakeland Family of Dealerships, and Lake Country Co-op.

This is the second big fundraiser of three that the Boreal Healthcare Foundation is hosting this year, and now the focus shifts towards Give a Little Life Day coming up in December. However, donations are always accepted online.
