Royals, Padres win weekends at home

The Sox nabbed a quick 3-0 lead after the top of the first before PA climbed to a 5-3 lead after the second inning. Now 12-9 after the third and through the fourth, Regina’s bats came to life in the fifth as they couldn’t stop scoring, totaling five runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings while the Padres couldn’t manage to score despite having multiple runners in scoring position. In the end, it was a 25-12 final for the White Sox, who had nine stolen bases in the game.

Game two was all Padres right from the get-go.

Prince Albert exploded for seven earned runs in the top of the first, knocking off Therrien from the pitcher’s mound before the third out of the inning. He threw 55 pitches in the frame, also allowing four hits and six walks with a strikeout.

A pitchers duel ensued until the bottom of the sixth, when Regina rallied for two runs ending Nash Noble’s shutout. The Padres got those runs back and then some, scoring three in the seventh to end the game 10-2. Noble threw a complete game gem, striking out 11 while allowing two earned runs on four hits with two walks in 93 pitches.

The second series of Saturday was the Royals and Broncos where neither game lasted the full seven innings. Prince Albert dominated the scoreboard, winning 14-3 and 11-1 in five innings due to mercy rule.

In game one, White Butte had the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Royals rallied for seven in the bottom half of the inning. PA continued full steam ahead in the following frames where they scored three in the second and four in the third to go up 14-2 by the fourth. With the score the same in the top of the fifth, the Broncos were down to their final at bat where they managed just one of the three runs, they needed to continue, forcing a 14-3 mercy win for the Royals.

Owen Tolley-Procyk scored a game-high four RBIs on two hits while also scoring two runs. Jaxson Robertson collected the win on the mound, throwing a complete game while allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Game two was the same vibe as the Royals quickly had a 4-0 lead after two. After the Broncos managed to get one back, PA answered back with four in the fourth and three more in the fifth, doing so on just seven hits. White Butte had a runner on second with two gone in the fifth in what could’ve been the game extending run, however, Declan Borthwick struck out Newman looking for the final out. Borthwick also led the way offensively, knocking in four runs on three hits while scoring twice.

Declan Lavallee picked up the win in game two, tossing four innings while allowing one earned run on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts.

Sunday

The Royals were back at it on Sunday morning for their turn against the White Sox, where they only allowed one run in their two games.

Game one was another mercy win for PA via an 11-1 score, which was then followed by a near identical 11-0 win immediately after.

With the Royals up 5-1 after the top of the fourth, PA rallied for five runs to go up nine before adding a tenth and final run in the bottom of the fifth to walk-off mercy the White Sox. Tolley-Procyk threw a complete game for PA while allowing just one earned run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts, as Robertson led at the plate with four RBIs on two hits with a run scored.

Game two was all PA, all the way as both sides of the ball were clicking.

Despite not scoring until the fourth, the floodgates opened for the Royals when that first run did come across as they tallied all 11 runs in the final four innings. Tolley-Procyk, Kole McGregor, and Alex Moose each had two RBIs as Carter Martin collected the win with six strikeouts in five innings while allowing four hits.

In the second series on Sunday, the Padres made off like the Royals and won their doubleheader over the Broncos.

Markus Exner held White Butte’s offence to a minimum in game one, tossing a complete seven innings while allowing one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts to guide PA to a 7-1 win. Miller led on offence with three hits, including two doubles, that gave him three RBIs and two runs scored.

Game two was a more exciting affair as the Broncos nearly came back from a 10-run deficit.

Fast forward to the top of the fourth, when PA exploded for six runs to make it an 11-1 ballgame. After White Butte scored once in the bottom of the fourth, they managed their own six run inning in the fifth to make it a three-run game. That’s when the Padres pulled away again with four runs in the sixth, now making the score 15-8.

In their last at bat, the Broncos managed to score five before they got the bases loaded with two out. There, Nash Stacey forced Owen Hextall to hit into a groundout, ending the walk off threat and securing a 15-13 win for PA.

With their wins, the Padres are now on a three-game win streak, and it put it on the line against the Sask Five Giants on Monday at Andy Zwack Field with first pitch at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, Royals are riding a six-game win streak and will have to wait until their next doubleheader on Canada Day, which will be an all-PA matchup against the Padres at Andy Zwack Field, with game one at 1 p.m. and game two at 5 p.m.
