A thick line of yellow tape surrounds a home in Prince Albert’s west flat and police have confirmed they are investigating a death.

A 50-year-old man who was reportedly assaulted at the home on March 29, has passed away at a hospital in Saskatoon.

On the night of the violent incident, the Prince Albert Police Service responded to a residence in the 1000 Block of 17th Street West. On arrival officers located the injured man, who had been involved in an altercation with another individual known to him.

The man was conscious and transported to Victoria Hospital by Parkland Ambulance for treatment of injuries, including bleeding from the nose and mouth. He then left Victoria Hospital prior to being seen by a doctor.

On April 2, the man returned to Victoria Hospital, where he received treatment before being transferred to Royal University Hospital for further care.

As a result of the death, the Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, has commenced an investigation. An autopsy is being conducted Tuesday to assist in determining the cause of death.

At the request of the family, the name of the deceased will not be released at this time. Police do not believe there is any risk to the public in relation to this incident.
