$1.5 million from hospital foundation to fund U of R pediatric and maternal research

A large investment from the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation is going to fund research at a University of Regina centre.

The foundation wrote a cheque for $1.5 million to help with studies at the Child Trauma Research Centre.

The centre supports children and expecting families through “strength-based, trauma-integrated” research.

Dr. Nathalie Reid, director of the Child Trauma Research Centre, said she was grateful for the money in a news release.

“This fund will empower us to engage with, and respond to, the urgent, emerging, and long‑term social, familial, economic, educational, health, and well-being impacts of childhood trauma and resilience,” she said.

The news release noted that the University of Regina was the first recipient of the foundations funding for maternal and pediatric research.

Troy Davies, the CEO of the hospital foundation, said the funds “represents an important step in advancing the future of pediatric and maternal health in Saskatchewan.”

“This significant investment elevates care for children and moms-to-be for generations to come,” he said.
