Debden Roadrunners aiming for fifth straight broomball national title in Ottawa

Mar 25, 2026 | 10:34 AM

The Debden Roadrunners U20 girls broomball team are making the strive for five this week as they’re in Ottawa competing for the club’s fifth straight national championship.

The Roadrunners have 11 returning players from last year’s winning team and are one of two Saskatchewan teams competing in the eight-team U20 girls tournament, which also features the Bruno T-Birds.

Other competing teams include Anicinape Migizi, the Seaway Valley Devils, and the Eastern Thunder from Ontario, and T-Miss, Draveuses Sayabec, and Eeyou Istchee United from Quebec.

Since competing in, and winning, their first tournament in 2022, Debden has posted a dominant 22-3-2 (W-L-T) record in the national championships and have outscored their opponents 71-13. In the 2025 tournament, the Roadrunners had their most impressive run yet, not only going undefeated but also not allowing a single goal.

The four-time reigning national champions open their tournament Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Sask. time against the Eastern Thunder. They’ll then play two games on Thursday against Eeyou Istchee United at 8:45 a.m. Sask time, and Draveuses Sayabec at 1:05 p.m. Sask time before playoffs on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, two Saskatchewan teams are competing in the U20 boys tournament, those being the Bruno Axemen and Team Saskatchewan. The Debden Sr. Roadrunners women’s team is also heading to nationals, but their tournament will be played in Alma, Quebec from April 7-11.
