Raiders partner with Northern Bears as new title sponsor

Prince Albert’s Female AAA hockey team the Northern Bears officially have a new title sponsor. The Prince Albert Raiders will be the new title sponsor of the Northern Bears for the next three years.  

Raiders Business Manager Mike Scissons said the opportunity to sponsor the Northern Bears made perfect sense for an organization that gets so much support from the community. This was an opportunity to support that community right back. 

“As a community-owned team, one of the things we look forward is to give back to the community. Obviously, the Bears are also a very big part of this community. They’ve had a very, very good history within Prince Albert, and we run our hockey school every summer as well and we just see more and more young girls getting involved in hockey. It’s something we love to see.” 

The Raiders will be providing financial support, resources, and scholarship opportunities for the Northern Bears as a result of the title sponsorship.  

“We share a building with the Bears and the Mintos, and we have a close relationship with all of them and the opportunity came together pretty quickly. It was something that just made perfect sense for us as the Raiders to take that step and to become the title sponsor of the Northern Bears and just highlight again that just see the outstanding, demonstration of athleticism and professionalism and everything that a women’s game is doing and blossoming in and around not only PA and Saskatchewan, but the whole country, and we just wanted to be a part of it.”

As for changes you may see at next season’s Raider games and Northern Bears games, you’ll likely see some shared marketing between the two teams. Other than that, things aren’t going to change for the average fan too much. 

“They have an incredibly strong board, a group of people that run that team and we’re in no way stepping in to take leadership or ownership of that team in any way. We’re there to support… You might see it a little bit more at our games, you might see some cross promotions on some things, but overall that’s an incredibly well-run organization that we’re just now happy to be a part of in terms of a sponsor.” 

In a statement, president of the Northern Bears Board of Directors Laurie Huet shared her gratitude to the Raiders for their commitment and support. 

“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Prince Albert Raiders Hockey Club. Their commitment to supporting the growth and success of the Prince Albert Northern Bears Female hockey team means so much, and it’s making a real difference both on and off the ice. Together, we’re building something truly special and inspiring the next generation of athletes.” 

The final decision on how the Raiders will work into the team name, such as the ‘Prince Albert Raiders Northern Bears’, has not been decided yet. The Northern Bears also thanked their previous title sponsor, Mann Northway, for their assistance over the last three seasons.
