Prince Albert drug trafficker receives community based sentence

Police officers executed a search warrant at a home located on Berezowsky Drive and seized 112.1 grams of cocaine, two grams of suspected fentanyl, $1,860 cash, 41 rounds of 9mm ammunition and assorted drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Federal Prosecutor Brent Slobodian explained during the initial investigation, Mercredi was observed by police having short-duration meetings consistent with drug trafficking.

When he was arrested, police found one Ziploc bag containing multiple smaller bags of cocaine – all totaling 14 grams.

He also had $500 in cash on him.

Another woman in the home had 2.1 grams of cocaine stuffed in her bra.

In the basement of the home, police found an additional 76 grams of cocaine.

On the cell phones seized by police, were text messages containing evidence of trafficking.

Mercredi’s lawyer explained his client felt embarrassed by what he had done, and wanted to move forward with his life but knew he could not do that until his legal matters were resolved.

Dale Blenner-Hassett also noted Mercredi had been out on bail for nearly a year and a half with no infractions and his criminal record was limited to an impaired driving conviction.

Judge Wiebe accepted the joint submission presented by lawyers and cautioned Mercredi that should he breach any of his conditions, he could serve the remainder of his sentence in jail.

“The fact you had the quantity you did, makes it a serious offence,” he said.

Wiebe added the court does have confidence Mercredi is a lower risk to re-offend.

As a result of the police investigation, Lara Larson was also arrested. On Friday, all of her charges were withdrawn.
