A Prince Albert Paralympian has won her first medal at the Milan Cortina Paralympics.

Brittany Hudak captured bronze in the women’s 10km interval start standing classic race on Wednesday, marking her fourth career Paralympic medal and first of the Milan Cortina Paralympics. She placed third with a time of 32:01.0, finishing only behind USA’s Sydney Peterson (29:49.2) and Norway’s Vilde Nilsen (29:51.8).

“It feels great,” said Hudak in an interview with the Canadian Paralympic Committee following the race. “I knew the fitness was there, I knew I was skiing well, it was just kind of managing to put everything together in the same day.

“I’m really happy to put together a solid race.”

It’s also her fourth bronze medal of her Paralympic career, having won two medals in Beijing in 2022 and one in PyeongChang in 2018. This is the first medal she’s won in the women’s 10km interval start standing classic race, as she previously medalled in the 12.5km biathlon and the 15km classical standing race.

With the medal, she has now completed three of her five events in Italy. She has already raced the women’s individual standing and women’s sprint standing events in the para biathlon, finishing fifth and sixth respectfully.

Hudak still has a chance to earn her first gold or silver medals in the women’s sprint pursuit standing race in para biathlon on Friday and the women’s 20km interval start free standing race in cross-country skiing on Sunday.

Her race on Friday gets underway at 3:35 a.m. Sask time, while the race on Sunday is set to start a little earlier at 3:20 a.m.
