The Prince Albert Sharks had a successful hunt in Moose Jaw this past weekend.

The club had 13 swimmers competing at the Saskatchewan Open Short Course Junior Provincial championship, six of whom claimed medals and three who won more than one.

P.A. had their way in the relay races as the team of Sophia Walter, Ethan Eversen, Jackson Mirasty, and Anastazja Scott won gold in the mixed 200m Free Relay and silver in the mixed 200m Medley Relay. Meanwhile, the all-girls team of Walter, Scott, Maia Lofstrom, and Mikaela Albertyn managed gold in both the 200m Free Relay and 200m Medley Relay.

Individually, Walter managed another gold and two more silver medals along with a bronze, collecting several personal best (PB) times in the process. She won the 200m breaststroke with a time of 3:06.66 and placed second in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events with times of 39.25 in the 50m and 1:27.00 in the 100m. Her lone bronze came in the 100m freestyle race, scoring a time of 1:08.15.

Doing just as well solo was Everson, who scored on the podium in five other events while posting personal bests in those same five events. The 50th ranked best swimmer in the province shed more than two seconds off his PB times in the 50m and 100m freestyle races, helping him place second with 1:04.91 in the 50m and 2:28.00 in the 100m. He also captured second in the 50m backstroke at 35.19 and third in the 50m breaststroke at 40.07. His most impressive finish at the meet was in the 200m individual medley, where he finished first with a new PB of 2:46.15, more than six seconds faster than his previous best time.

Scott also had quite a bit of success, winning more than a handful of gold medals of her own. She placed first in the:

  • 100m freestyle – 1:06.02
  • 100m backstroke – 1:15.46 (PB)
  • 200m backstroke – 2:42.39 (PB)
  • 50m fly – 33.10 (PB)
  • 100m fly – 1:18.01
  • 200m individual medley – 2:45.77 (PB)

Additionally, she claimed second in the 50m freestyle at 30.38 and scored a new PB in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:29.50.

According to SwimSask, there are meets in Saskatoon and Swift Current coming up this weekend ahead of the annual ManSask Winter Provincial Championships, slated for March 19-22 in Winnipeg.
