Gymnasts aim to hit their mark at Aerials Invitational

Feb 28, 2026 | 4:02 PM

Nearly 200 youth gymnasts have descended on Prince Albert this weekend for the annual Aerials Invitational meet.

Ten clubs from all corners of the province are in town to not only compete, but also to attempt to meet a qualifying score to secure a spot in provincials coming up in May.

Joanna Guidinger, P.A. Aerials board secretary, said this event is their biggest fundraiser of the year.

“We put a lot of time and effort into our meet to make it special. It’s really special to be able to compete in your own gym on your own equipment but also for the club in general. It’s nice to be able to showcase something so great in Prince Albert and showcase the talent that Prince Albert has to offer.”

Athletes have to make qualifying scores in at least two meets over the course of the competitive season to go to provincials, with the Aerials Invitational being one of a handful of stops in the circuit. In the P.A. meet, there are four total events in the beam, bars, floor, and vault.

Guidinger said some of the athletes competing this weekend have previously competed at both Westerns and, more recently, at the Saskatchewan Winter Games.

This year’s theme was centered around The Greatest Showman, where Guidinger said the inspiration came from her and Aerials board chair Jenna Henderson during last year’s meet.

“We were watching the last day of the meet and we both, kind of at the same time, looked at each other and said it would be amazing if this was like a circus with a big top. So the big top was the inspiration and so we tried to kind of do that in here to kind of show that.”

The Prince Albert Aerials Invitational meet wraps up on Sunday. The provincial championship meet is slated for May 1-3 in Regina.
