Class of 2026 announced for Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame

The Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame (PASHOF) will grow to fit eight more members in 2026. 

The news was made public on Friday announcing the seven P.A. sports figures and one team that will join the other local legends in the Hall, featuring three athletes, two builders, and two for meritorious service. 

Additionally, the World Cup of Softball Host Committee was named Sports Organization of the Year. 

The three newest members of the athlete’s category include track star Katelyn Lehner, racquetballer Joel Mihilewicz, and multi-sport athlete Leah (Guidinger) Tyree. In the builder’s category, it’s longtime Prince Albert Mintos coach Tim Leonard and fellow longtime volleyball and basketball coach Randy Emmerson, and for meritorious service, it’s businessman Rusty Clunie and volunteer Carol Soles.  

The lone team being inducted this year is the Telus Cup (National Champion) winning 2013-14 Prince Albert Mintos, who was coached by Ken Morrison and featured several players to go onto have very successful hockey careers, like Connor Ingram who’s the current goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers. The team ended the regular season third in league standings at 28-12-4 and defeated the Notre Dame Argos in the regional final. In the national championship in Moose Jaw, they finished the round robin in first and knocked off the Grenadiers de Châteauguay in the finals, winning 4-3 in triple overtime.

As mentioned, winning Sports Organization of the Year was the World Cup of Softball Host Committee. Headed by Ian Litzenberger, the world descended on Prince Albert in July for the world class event that saw eight of the best countries from around the world compete for World Champion. In the end, it was Venezuela finishing on top, defeating New Zealand 3-0 in the finals, while Canada placed fifth. 

With the new class set to make its new home in the Hall later this year, that means to make room, the Class of 2011 will be removed and returned to the inductees, their families, or respective organization. That class included David Herbert (meritorious service), Pete Lukoni (athlete/builder), Bob Romanchuk (builder), Terry Springett (builder), the 1972-73 Motors Dusters Women’s Softball team, and the 1993-94 Carlton High School Girls Soccer team. 

The 34th Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony is set for May 2 at the Ches Leach Lounge inside the Art Hauser Centre. Tickets are available and can be bought by contacting Jody Boulet at pashof@citypa.com.
