Lloydminster triple-homicide case headed to trial in Battleford

The accused in a Lloydminster triple homicide case has been committed to stand trial following the conclusion of his preliminary hearing.

The preliminary hearing for Nakota Pooyak wrapped up Wednesday, Jan. 28, and a provincial court judge ordered the case to proceed to a pre-trial conference at Court of King’s Bench in Battleford.

Pooyak faces three counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Brent Peters, Matthew Peters and Brennan Peters.

The charges stem from a Sept. 11, 2024 incident in Lloydminster, where police were called to a residence to conduct a well-being check. Officers later found three men dead inside the home, each suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation with assistance from Lloydminster RCMP.

Pooyak was charged in January 2025 and has remained in custody since that time.

As of now, a trial date has yet to be determined.
