Two young ladies from Warman have been presented with a great opportunity.

Olivia Mann and Nadia Buyan, ages 13 and 12, have been selected by World Performers Canada to be part of Canada’s National Dance Team – an elite group that represents the country at the Dance World Cup. In July, along with 21 other dancers from Saskatchewan, the girls will travel to Dublin, Ireland.

“I’m so grateful for this opportunity. It’s like a dream of mine to be accepted and I can’t wait to go to Dublin and see all the girls on the team,” Nadia said.

Both dancers currently train at Dancers Edge. Nadia started dancing at the age of two at Performing Arts Warehouse in Prince Albert, and was inspired by her big sister who danced there for many years

Olivia shares Nadia’s excitement and said she could not believe when she was picked.

“I didn’t expect anything like this to happen,” she said.

Last October, the girls attended the 1820 Convention at the Saskatoon Inn and were asked to attempt a number of different combinations. Their ability and skills were noticed by the scouts in attendance.

While the girls have competed all over Alberta and Saskatchewan, this will be their first time outside the country.

“When I think about it, I’m so excited to go to Dublin and see everything there and I’m so excited to perform on the biggest stage,” Olivia said.

The prestigious international competition—held annually in locations around Europe—brings together more than 10,000 dancers from over 60 countries, making it the second-largest dance event globally.

As participation on the National Team is self-funded, Olivia and Nadia are actively fundraising to help cover training, travel, and competition costs. Each dancer has set up a GoFundMe page, and community support of any size is greatly appreciated.

“We went bottle driving, and we’re doing a lot of other ways to fundraise,” Nadia said.

World Performers Canada also offers sponsorship opportunities that allow local businesses to support the dancers while gaining recognition through national and social media exposure.

Also invited from Saskatchewan are dancers from Moose Jaw (four),Turtleford (two), Regina (two), Saskatoon (11) and Nipawin (one).
