Council denies Ronald McDonald House request

No changes will be made to the agreement between the City of Prince Albert and Ronald McDonald House Sask.

Council voted on Monday to deny a request by RMHS to take a second look at a deal for the servicing of 25th Street. 

“As a councillor, I feel we have a responsibility to apply our policies consistently,” said Dawn Kilmer after she made the motion to deny the request. “It’s about fiscal responsibility. “

Staff recommended the request be denied as well, citing reasons such as inconsistency with their policies.

Framing on the building is already underway and RMHS agreed previously to upfront the costs of installing underground services along with surfacing on the street which was just a dirt road before.

The costs are over $2 million but RMHS will be able to recoup most of their money if other landowners along the street develop their properties. 

The request was for the city to carry the costs and have RMHS pay only their portion. 

The vote to deny the change was opposed by Councillors Dan Brown and Darren Solomon. The building is in Solomon’s ward and not far from the Victoria Hospital.
