Humboldt father says Netflix hockey series ‘turns my stomach’
A newly announced hockey drama from Netflix is drawing strong reaction in Saskatchewan, as families connected to the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash say the series cuts painfully close to a tragedy that continues to shape their lives.
“My heart sank,” Scott Thomas said. “My initial reaction was like I was punched in the face. I just sat in silence for a while.”
Thomas, whose son Evan was one of 16 people who died in the crash that also injured 13, said he learned about the Netflix series while at work after receiving a text message from another reporter. He said it was the first he had heard of the project.
“I googled it and tried to find what I could online,” he said. “And my heart sank. It really did.”
