Man charged after shooting on Cumberland House

Following a tense situation that occurred on Thursday at Cumberland House, a 29-year-old man from the community has been charged with aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm with intent.

Preston Crane is scheduled to appear Monday at La Ronge Provincial Court.

At approximately 8 a.m., Cumberland House RCMP received a report of an injured person outside of a business in the community.

Officers immediately responded and located a man with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. They provided first aid to the victim until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious in nature.

Investigators identified a possible suspect, including a vehicle he was known to operate and officers began searching for the suspect with help from Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services.

Officers determined the suspect was inside a residence in Cumberland House. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team was then engaged to assist with his arrest.

Conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch and the Saskatchewan Marshals Service assisted Cumberland House RCMP in maintaining a perimeter around the residence.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., Cumberland House RCMP arrested the suspect without incident.
