Fleeing suspect releases bear spray into Prince Albert shopping mall

A 19-year-old man is facing a number of serious charges after allegedly deploying bear spray inside Prince Albert’s Gateway Mall.

Early Sunday afternoon, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the shopping centre for a report of a man with an outstanding warrant.

Arriving officers located the man; however, he began to flee on foot. At this time, another call for service came in where it was reported the same man had discharged bear spray inside the shopping centre.

As the incident continued, members of the Saskatchewan RCMP were on scene assisting and located the suspect in the 100 block of 13th St. E.

A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was successfully deployed by RCMP officers and the man was arrested without further incident.

Parkland Ambulance attended and assessed the male; however, no further medical attention was required. Parkland Ambulance also confirmed for paNOW no persons from this incident were taken to hospital by ambulance.

As a result of this incident, the 19-year-old has been charged with assault with a weapon (x3) and was scheduled to appear at Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday.
