After playing a fantastic game but coming up short on Saturday against the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Prince Albert Raiders had their six-game winning streak snapped and are looking to find the win column again against the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings.

Ahead of the game, the second NHL Central Scouting List has been released, projecting which players from around the world will be drafted in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.

On that list, the Raiders have seven players:

  • Daxon Rudolph ranked #6
  • Jonah Sivertson ranked #88
  • Benett Kelly ranked #143
  • Riley Boychuk ranked #159
  • Alisher Sarkenov ranked #175
  • Matyas Man ranked #180
  • Michal Orsulak ranked #2 amongst goaltenders.

The Wheat Kings also have four players on that list:

  • Giorgos Pantelas ranked #58
  • Joby Baumuller ranked #169
  • Cameron Allard ranked #190
  • Filip Ruzicka ranked #13 among goaltenders

This is fourth meeting of the season between the Raiders and Wheat Kings, and the Raiders are a perfect 3-0-0 against the Wheat Kings this year. Most recently, the Raiders won 2-1 in Brandon on Nov. 28, then before that a 4-1 win in Prince Albert on Nov. 21, and then all the way back to the start of the season where the Raiders won 5-4 on overtime in Brandon on Sept. 27.

Coming into the weekend, the Raiders continue to lead the East Division by 15 points, and leading their division means the Raiders also get second place in the Eastern Conference despite sitting two points back of the Edmonton Oil Kings and three points back of the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Raiders have a record of 28-6-4 (Wins-Losses-Overtime Losses), and are coming off a loss that breaks up a six-game winning streak.

As for the Wheat Kings, they sit tied second in the East Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference with the Saskatoon Blades. The Wheat Kings are 22-16-1 on the year, but have lost their last four in a row 6-3 to Regina, 4-0 to Red Deer, then back to back losses to Saskatoon 5-1 and 3-2.

Onto special teams, where the Raiders powerplay was held off the board for the first time in ten games against Edmonton, but they still sit third in the league at 31.5 per cent. As for the penalty kill, it hasn’t surrendered a goal in two games and sits 11th in the league at 77.6 per cent.

As for the Wheat Kings, their powerplay is running at 29.1 per cent, good for fifth in the league. Meanwhile their penalty kill sits 16th in the league at 73 per cent.

On to the top scorers, and Aiden Oiring has the biggest lead anyone’s had in Raiders scoring with 17G-28A-45P, a full two points ahead of Riley Boychuk in second with 8G-35A-43P. Daxon Rudolph has 18G-24A-42P and just had a 13 game point streak snapped, he sits tied for third with Brandon Gorzynski at 17G-25A-42P.

Raiders point streaks:

  • Aiden Oiring has 4G-9A in his last seven games
  • Max Heise has 5G-6A in his last six games, and a goal in each of the last five
  • Maddix McCagherty has 0G-3A in his last two games
  • Owen Corkish has 2G-0A in his last two games

As for the Wheat Kings, Joby Baumuller sits third in the WHL in goals with 28, and he leads the Wheat Kings in points with 28G-18A-46P. Tied for the top spot is Jaxon Jacobson with 11G-35A-46P. Luke Mistelbacher takes the third spot with 20G-25A-45P, and Grayson Burzynski 7G-34A-41P.

Because they were shut out two games ago, no one has an active point streak for the Wheat Kings.

Finally looking at the goaltenders, the Raiders are lead by Michal Orsulak between the pipes with a record of 10-4-3, a 0.903 save percentage, a 2.45 goals against average good for third in the league, and two shutouts on the year. Behind him is the young Steele Bass with a perfect 5-0-0 record this season with a 0.916 save percentage, a 1.60 goals against average, and one shutout on the year.

The Wheat Kings are coming in with the tandem of Filip Ruzicka and Jayden Kraus. Ruzicka has the majority of the starts with 16-7-0 on the year, a 0.904 save percentage, a 3.06 goals against average, and one shutout. Kraus has a record of 6-8-1, a 0.879 save percentage, a 4.21 goals against average, and two shutouts.
