Man charged with fleeing, failing to stop for police after being involved in car crash
When Prince Albert RCMP saw an SUV driving erratically on Second Avenue East they put on their lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled eastbound on 22 Street East.
It happened around 1 a.m. last Wednesday, Jan. 7. Instead of chasing the vehicle, police disengaged their emergency equipment and followed the SUV’s direction. Shortly after, they came upon a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Sixth Avenue East and 22 Street East. The SUV that fled from police crashed into a car, and the five people inside the SUV fled on foot. The driver of the car that was struck was not injured; however, the passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Prince Albert Police Service’s newest Police Service Dog (PSD) was called in to help find the suspects. Patrol members were able to arrest one suspect, while PSD Pando and his handler, Cst. Brown, began a K9 track which resulted in locating and arresting another suspect in the 600 block of Brandon Drive.
Following their investigation, RCMP charged 30-year-old Brennan Cook from Southend with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, and failure to stop after an accident. The other suspects were released without charge.
