Raiders powerplay runs wild in sixth straight win over Broncos

Jan 10, 2026 | 1:51 PM

With the Prince Albert Raiders having won five straight games since before Christmas, the Raiders were also looking for their sixth straight win of the season over the visiting Swift Current Broncos. The Raiders were tested by the Broncos in this game, but the Raiders powerplay showed total dominance through the whole game to boost the Raiders to a 6-1 win.

The Broncos had some early chances that just missed the mark, but the Raiders took the first penalty of the game. On that penalty kill, the Raiders stopped everything the Broncos tried, and Aiden Oiring even stole the puck for a 2-on-1 that turned into a great feed from Oiring into a Brayden Dube breakaway chance. Suddenly, the Raiders had all the momentum.

The pressure built up until the Raiders got their first powerplay, and that’s when they opened the scoring. At 15:25, Daxon Rudolph opened the scoring to extend his point streak to 13 games. Brandon Gorzynski entered the zone through the right side wing, then found Aiden Oiring waiting at the left point. Oiring then found Daxon Rudolph sliding into the lane Gorzynksi had just opened up through the middle, and Rudolph fired under the bar for his team leading 18th of the year.

In the second powerplay of the game, the Raiders scored again. Riley Boychuk had the puck at the right point, then sent it low into the corner for Maddix McCagherty. He quickly went back through the slot towards the left wall for Justice Christensen on a onetimer, and Heise scored his 18th of the season to tie Rudolph at the team of the team scoring at 5:10.

Then just as a full two minute 4-on-4 expired, the Broncos got on the board at the 14:33 mark when Hyde Davidson backed into the middle of the blueline and then sent the puck back to the right side for the newly acquired Brendan Rudolph. He walked into the slot and fired a wrist shot past a screen to beat Steele Bass.

The Raiders then got back to back 5-on-3 powerplays in the final minutes of the period, and the Raiders capitalized on both. First at the 17:33 mark, Max Heise won a puck battle out of the slot and curled back in towards the net on the left. Heise fired his shot off the pad, and it came out to Aiden Oiring on the right side of the net for Oiring’s 17th of the season.

At the 18:07, the Raiders scored on another 5-on-3. All five guys on the ice had a touch, first the newly acquired Braeden Cootes in the left corner, Justice Christensen at the left point, then Daxon Rudolph picked up the first assist from the right point, Aiden Oiring in the right corner for a onetimer, and Oiring found Max Heise in the slot who slammed home his 18th of the season.

After 2: Raiders 4 – 1 Broncos, shots 20-4 Raiders, 31-10 Raiders overall

Early in the period Owen Corkish made a great move to the middle on a 2-on-1 with Evan Smith, but they were both denied on that chance. He’d make up for it though at the 12:04 mark when Linden Burrett made a move to hold the puck in, and Evan Smith quickly picked it up and found Riley Boychuk cutting in on the left side. Boychuk sent a pass across the crease for Corkish, and his first shot was stopped but he dug for his rebound to find the back of the net for his ninth of the year.

At the 13:05 mark, the Raiders scored again out of seemingly nowhere. Benett Kelly sent the puck out to centre for Brandon Gorzynski, and he walked into the offensive zone through the middle. Gorzynski found Brayden Dube streaking in from the right, and Dube fired a ridiculously quick wrist shot into the back of the net for his 18th of the season, creating a three way tie at the top of the Raiders scoring.

FINAL: Raiders 6 – 1 Broncos, shots 9-2 Raiders, 40-12 Raiders overall

With his goal and assist on the night, Daxon Rudolph has now extended his point to his longest of his career with 11G-13A in his last 13 games.

Daxon Rudolph also scored his 18th of the season, but so did Max Heise and Brayden Dube. Aiden Oiring is right behind them with 17 goals, same as Brandon Gorzynski.

Steele Bass earned a 12 save shutout last time he faced the Broncos, and this time Bass stopped 11/12 for a 0.917 save percentage and his fifth win over them.
