In the midst of a winning streak that saw the Prince Albert Raiders play their four most dominant games of the season, the Raiders were in Regina to Saturday night to finish a home and home with the Regina Pats. The Pats made the Raiders work for this one, but the Raiders came away with their fifth straight win 5-2.

The Raiders opened the scoring at the 7:20 mark. In the Raiders zone, Brandon Gorzynski was able to play the puck out to centre, and Brayden Dube turned on the jets. One of the Pats got his stick on the puck for a moment to take away Gorzynski’s assist, but Dube quickly lifted his stick, outpositioned him, and fired home his first of the night and his 15th of the season.

With the Raiders on their first powerplay of the game, the Raiders got sloppy and gave up a breakaway to Jace Egland, and Justice Christensen hooked him to take away the scoring chance and instead cause a penalty shot. On that open look at the net, Egland tried to shoot glove side, but the young Steele Bass snatched the puck out of the air with his glove.

At 17:08 mark, the Raiders extended the lead. From his own zone, Daxon Rudolph sent a pass up the wall for Aiden Oiring on the Pats blueline. Oiring stopped, sent a pass across the ice for Brandon Gorzynski to pick up in stride, and he drove down to the goal line before curling in towards the goal and ripping a shot short side for his 17th of the season.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 0 Pats, shots 14-10 Pats

On their second powerplay of the game, the Raiders scored again. Brock Cripps at the right point sent a onetimer pass to the left for Daxon Rudolph, and he sent it towards the net. Aiden Oiring was the intended target at the back door, but instead it hit the skate of Max Heise in the slot, and Heise joined the celebration without even realizing he had his 17th of the season at 10:38.

After Justice Christensen hit the post on a onetimer late, the Pats then got a 5-on-3 powerplay near the end of the period. At 18:50, Steele Bass made a great save on a onetimer from Caden Brown, but Ruslan Karimov found the rebound and tucked it in before Bass even had a chance at it.

Still 5-on-4, the Pats scored again when Keets Fawcett took a shot from the middle of the slot and was blocked, and again Bass had no chance on the rebound as it came out to his left and Zach Lansard potted it at 19:24.

After 2: Raiders 3 – 2 Pats, shots 8-7 Raiders, 21-18 Pats

Just one penalty was called in the third period, but the Raiders killed it off. Both teams traded chances back and forth, but nothing came through and the Pats pulled their goaltender with 2:30 left and a faceoff in the Raiders zone.

Shortly after that faceoff, Brayden Dube made a great play at his blueline to poke the puck out to centre for his second breakaway of the night, but this time there was no goalie and Dube hit the empty net for his second of the night and 16th of the year at 18:16.

Then on the final shift of the game, and after the Raiders did their best to set him up for his first career hat trick the night before, Brayden Dube got his third. Aiden Oiring was able to clear the puck out to centre for Max Heise streaking up the right wall, and Heise sent a pass to the open crease where Dube just had to put a stick on it for his 17th of the year and his third of the night at 19:57.

FINAL: Raiders 5 – 2 Pats, shots 11-10 Raiders, 31-29 Pats overall

With Brandon Gorzynski and Max Heise each scoring once, and Dube scoring three, there is now a log jam at the top of the Raiders goal scoring race. Gorzynski, Heise, Dube, and Daxon Rudolph are all tied with 17 goals on the year, and Aiden Oiring is right behind them with 16. Jonah Sivertson is the next closest to the group with 13 on the year.

With two assists on the night, Daxon Rudolph has tied his career longest point streak he set in January last year of 12 games. Rudolph now has 10G-12A-22P in his last twelve games, and it stands as the third longest streak in the league.

The Raiders are now due for a boost to their lineup when they return to the ice with Matyas Man and Michal Orsulak both slated to return for next weekend’s games with the conclusion of the World Juniors.

The Raiders will have the week off before playing host to Swift Current on Friday, and Edmonton on Saturday.
