It’s a girl!: Prince Albert celebrates New Year’s baby

Jan 2, 2026 | 2:29 PM

Prince Albert’s first baby of 2026 is officially a five-pound, 10 ounce baby girl.

On Jan. 1, at 9:33 a.m., Virgina McCallum was born at Victoria Hospital.

Her parents, Corleen Sewap and Leyton McCallum, are from Pelican Narrows.

“I was surprised, I didn’t think I was gonna have a New Year’s baby,” Sewap told paNOW. “My due date was on Jan. 10.”

Virginia joins a family that includes three older brothers who range in age from one to four years old.

“My last one was early too, but I think she was the fastest one,” Sewap commented.

The family hopes to return home on Monday.

The runner-up baby at Victoria Hospital was reportedly born at 1:11a.m. on Friday.

Down the road in Saskatoon, that city’s first baby in 2026 was also a girl.

Emelia Rose Ava Iron was born at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to a mother from Canoe Lake First Nation. The health authority said Emelia was the woman’s first child, and the girl weighed three-pounds, 14 ounces at birth.
