U18AA Timberwolves, Foxes sitting near .500 at break

The Lake Country Timberwolves and the Prince Albert Family Pizza Foxes are standing in the middle of the pack at the halfway point of the season.

Both U18AA squads are near the .500 mark at the break as the T-Wolves sit with a 6-8-2-0 (W-L-T-OTL) record in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League (SAAHL), while the Foxes don a 5-6-1-1 record in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League (SFHL).

The Timberwolves entered the break on a bit of a down after back-to-back losses, including an 8-2 loss to the Saskatoon Screaming Eagles and, most recently, a narrow 4-3 defeat to Martensville. Prior to the skid, P.A. was riding a three-game win streak, highlighted by a pair of wins over the North East and another against the North West.

Jordan Probert leads the Pack in the points department so far with 13 (7g-6a), followed by Ryan Ward with 10 (4g-6a), and both Zarryn Thomas and Kaleb Cournoyer who each have nine. Duties between the pipes have been split by Willis Finch and Kale Bell, where Finch dons a 4-3-1-0 record to go with a 3.61 goals against average and a .898 save percentage, while Bell managed a 2-5-1-0 record with a 3.82 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

Meanwhile, the Foxes entered the break on a high, edging out a Christmas win before the holidays, 2-1 over Lumsden. P.A. began the season 0-4 before going on a three-game win streak to get back on track, with triumphs over Notre Dame, Swift Current, and the Southeast.

Steele Zablocki, sister of Stryker Zablocki, leads the Foxes in scoring so far with 11 points (4g-7a), and is trailed by Marti Burechaillo with 10 (5g-5a), Jordyn Schrader with seven (3g-4a), while four others are tied with six points each. In goal, Brianna Brataschuk holds a 4-2-1-1 record with a 2.13 goals against average and .922 save percentage, while Gracelynn Melnyk has a 1-4-0-0 record with 4.05 goals against average and a .836 save percentage.

The Timberwolves return from their break on Saturday afternoon at the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre Rink 1 for a date with Martensville at 2:45 p.m. On the same date, the Foxes will also be making their return, coincidentally on Rink 2 at Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre against the Western Prairie Thunder at 2 p.m.
