Mintos drop OT decision in Warman

The Prince Albert Mintos salvaged a single point on Thursday night after falling 4-3 in overtime to the Warman Wildcats at the Art Hauser Centre.

The loss is Minto’s fourth in a row, and they are now 3-5-2-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) in their last 10 games and 11-12-2-0 on the season.

Warman got the party started within the first minute of the opening frame when Weston Kostiuk buried his ninth of the season just 36 seconds in. The score wouldn’t change until Cruz Stacey got the Mintos on the board to tie it 15 minutes later, where it remained tied heading into the second.

There, Prince Albert would take the lead when Sean Lavoie potted his second of the year midway through the frame. In the dying seconds, Koston Baliski scored the equalizer to pull the Wildcats back to even at two entering the third.

With under four minutes to play, Dade Wotherspoon found the back of the net for his team leading 15th of the season to put Warman back on top. Then, just in the nick of time with the goalie pulled, P.A.’s Xander Pritchard lit the lamp to tie it at three to force overtime.

However, a Mintos hooking penalty proved to be the difference maker. That allowed the Wildcats power play to go to work, and Dawson Gamble played hero, scoring the game winner.

Mintos netminder Cohen Kuntz made 37 saves in the loss, while Warman’s Seth Gutenberg turned aside 29 of 32 shots.

The Mintos and Wildcats will rematch on Dec. 21 in Warman in their final game before the Christmas break.
