Not guilty pleas entered by Sturgeon Lake robbery suspects

Nearly three months after an armed robbery at Sturgeon Lake First Nation, comes news that the resulting court case is proceeding to trial.

Two of the men charged, Paul Ermine and Toby Daniels, have entered not guilty pleas and elected to be tried at provincial court in Prince Albert. Both men appeared by video from the correctional center when their matters were discussed Thursday morning.

Trial dates were set for May 1, 2026.

On Sept. 23, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP were called to the small community west of the city for a report of a robbery.

They soon after learned a woman was approached by a group of individuals outside a residence. A man pointed a firearm at her and demanded the keys to her truck. The group of individuals left in the stolen vehicle.

A female suspect was located and arrested later that day on a grid road at Wahpeton First Nation.

Shortly after, officers located and arrested two men and a second woman at a residence in the same community.

The stolen vehicle was found abandoned behind the property and police determined the suspects broke into the residence.

Toby Daniels was arrested weeks later.

Also charged in the case was Alyssa Bear who is back in court Jan. 5, and Jayden Sutherland, who will appear for trial on April 6, 2026. Both are alleged to have committed break and enter.

Zena Daniels was charged with failing to comply with release order conditions, and is scheduled to make her next court appearance Thursday afternoon.
