Lake Country Co-Op collects big donation for local food banks

Dec 13, 2025 | 5:00 PM

Food banks in Prince Albert and Lac La Ronge, along with the Salvation Army in Nipawin, have directly benefited from a fundraising event organized by Lake Country Co-Op.

The eighth annual Cram the Van event was held on Friday, and despite the bitterly cold temperatures, it received great support from community members who were either stopping in to pick up their own groceries or just stopping by for the cause.

Marketing Specialist Louise Friesen was not surprised by the turnout.

“People are always willing to help communities in need,” she said.

While this year’s final totals won’t be known until Monday, in years past the event has raised hundreds of pounds of food and $4,000 each year for the three community groups.

As an added incentive, with the purchase of a $10 or $20 Hunger Bag or donation of a non-perishable food item, the generous person was entered into a draw for a $50 Co-op Gold Gift Basket.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, a large truck was sent by the food bank in Prince Albert to pick up all the bags.
