Maya Rabbitskin joked when she pitched the event for a low cost event that would bring like minded people together from the beauty industry, they thought it was a scam.

However’s Wednesday’s six hour Glam and Glow event at Plaza 88 was anything but and featured 15 local vendors including activities for families, and some unique shopping ideas. Rabbitskin, who organized the event, is also the owner of Sacred Shears.

“I just like being able to make a difference in somebody’s life. Even if it’s just a quick haircut, that makes a huge difference for somebody,” she said.

Sacred Shears is a new business venture and in addition to working in Prince Albert, team members hold mobile clinics, venturing to various First Nations and also holding lice clinics.

In addition to the free hair cuts being offered by Sacred Shears for young children and seniors, the event also featured local nails technicians and make up experts.

Kendle Dumont owns Nails by Shorty and commented how normally when there are events like this held, there is a high cost and a limit placed on how many similar businesses can participate.

“It was great today,” she said. “I think it means a lot, especially getting the community involved, and you know support local.”

Keefe Taylor was among the seniors who received a free hair cut.

“He did a real good job and it was nice talking to him. You know he’s from the Philippines and just moved to Canada four years ago. He seems to enjoy what he does, it was nice,” he said.

When asked how he felt about getting a free haircut, Taylor stated he got a haircut two weeks ago, but the guy didn’t do that good of a job, so he came to the Glam and Glow event and walked away much happier.
