Upon arrival, police learned that someone had been shot. Officers cleared the resident and found the girl with life-threatening injuries, where Parkland Ambulance began to assess her at the scene. However, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards.

A 17-year-old boy, who was found in the home, has since been arrested and remains in police custody while the investigation continues. No charges have been laid.

The Forensic Identification Section and Major Crimes Unit attended the scene, and there will continue to be an increased police presence in the 900 block of 12th Street West as the investigation continues.

A woman who lives nearby told paNOW she was awoken the sound of a gunshot and later saw the body being removed from the property.

“I’m not really shocked because police are here steady but it’s sad,” she said.
