After 20 days since their last game at home, the Prince Albert Raiders returned home on Friday night to welcome the red hot Brandon Wheat Kings. The Raiders scored early, and from there they stayed disciplined enough the rest of the way to win the powerplay battle come away with the 4-1 win.

After the first Raiders powerplay gave them the momentum, they put the Wheat Kings on their heels enough to the point that they had six men on the ice. Even then, the Raiders forecheck went to work as Ben Harvey and Connor Howe worked together to get the puck free for Matyas Man at the left point. With a mess of bodies in front, Man fired through traffic and scored his first of the season, and his first in the WHL at 4:50.

On their second powerplay, the Raiders scored at the 5:27 mark. Aiden Oiring didn’t get an assist but won the faceoff back to Daxon Rudolph, he sent it across the blueline for Riley Boychuk as the screen formed in front of the net, and Boychuk put a shot-pass through the slot for Max Heise to tip in for his tenth of the season.

The Raiders got two more powerplays before the end of the first period, one of which was cut off by a penalty of their own, and things boiled over at the end of the period. A slashing penalty to Gunnar Gleasman lead to a scrum. Ultimately, the Raiders would get a fifth powerplay to start the second period with Max Heise in the box for fighting with Nigel Boehm, Linden Burrett gone for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct with Prabh Bhathal, and the extra penalty to Gleasman.

The Raiders didn’t score on the powerplay that started the period, and a second powerplay after that, but they still managed to take the momentum. Ethan Bibeau made his Raiders return, and he would drop the gloves with Carter Klippenstein.

At the 11:43 mark, Owen Corkish worked the puck down the right wall and below the goal line. Aiden Oiring picked the puck up and he tried to feed it out into the slot. Instead, it hit a body and came to the side of the goal for Brock Cripps sneaking in from the blue line, and Cripps managed to bury the puck for his second of the season.

In the third, the Wheat Kings powerplay was finally able to find the back of the net on a 5-on-3. After working the puck from Grayson Burzynski and Joby Baumuller back to the blue line to Luke Mistelbacher, and he fired his trademark wrist shot through the middle to get the Wheat Kings on the board at 12:18.

The Raiders killed off the second part of the penalty, and soon time was starting to run out on the Wheat Kings, and they pulled the goaltender. The Raiders did an excellent job keeping the Wheat Kings to the outside, unable to find a shooting lane, until Riley Boychuk managed to steal the puck and swat it down the ice with exactly one minute left for his fourth of the season.
