Prince Albert is set to host another major ball event next summer. This time it’s for baseball.

President of Prince Albert Minor Baseball Association, Nathan Noble said they just got word of their successful bid for the 2026 Western Canada AA Baseball Championships for the 13U, 15U, and 18U age groups this August.

“This is the highest level of AA that there will be in Western Canada,” said Noble. “We’ll have teams coming from B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, and of course, there will be two teams from Saskatchewan as we host those three levels.”

Noble said the successful bid is a testament to the hard work of volunteers, but also the strength of the baseball community.

“We’ve seen what the city and their volunteers and city staff can do to get an event ready like [the] World Softball Championships, and so we’re very excited that we’ll continue to roll on and put on a really good competition here for some Western Canadian baseball.”

Over the coming months, Noble said the committee will be working closely with partners, sponsors and other supporters. Thanks to ongoing upgrades to baseball facilities over the last couple of years, he said there isn’t a lot of work that needs to be done to the diamonds.

“There’s not much that really needs to be changed. We are looking to add some kind of washroom facility to the Andy Zwack Field at Prime Minister’s Park, just because we have been cut off from the rest of the park with the bridge removal, and so bathroom facilities would probably be the only thing we want to add, but other than that, it’s just getting them in as good a shape as possible. We have everything that we need to host,” he said.

The announcement comes on the heels of a successful World Softball Championship that the city hosted this past summer.
