Twin Rivers Hockey League off and running in new season with one less team

Nov 14, 2025 | 11:54 AM

A new season is well underway in the Twin Rivers Hockey League (TRHL).

The puck dropped late last month, with all teams now having played at least one game.

Entering this weekend, Rosthern and Hague are currently tied for top spot in the standings at 3-0-0 (W-L-OTL) to start the year, Clavet and Cudworth sit a game back at 2-1-0, and Bruno rounds out the top five at 1-1-1.

Tied for sixth at one point apiece are Waldheim (1-2-0), Dalmeny (1-1-0), and the defending champions Allan (1-0-0). Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings with no wins as of yet are Shellbrook (0-1-0), Hanley (0-1-0), and Birch Hills (0-5-0).

Compared to years past, the league is operating with 11 teams this season as a vote was held in the offseason to remove one of the teams from the TRHL.

On April 28, during the league’s spring meeting, league members voted to remove the Willow Cree Chiefs from the league. Contrary to a post made by the team, the league confirmed the vote was not unanimous, and no public reason was given for their removal.

With the Chiefs no more, it has led to their players from last season finding new homes for this year, like 2024/25 TRHL Top Goaltender Nathan Dancy who’s now with Rosthern, and Trever Sanderson who’s now with Waldheim. Some players left the league entirely like Talon Thomas, who now plays for the Asquith Admirals in the Sask West Hockey League (SWHL).

Other TRHL teams also had some notable pickups in the offseason like Clavet, who got a big boost between the pipes with former WHL goaltender Ethan Chadwick. Meanwhile, Bruno picked up 2024 SIJHL champion Rylen Leroux, Dalmeny got 2023 SJHL champion Easton Rask, and several others added some youthful depth with players from various Jr. A and B leagues.

The TRHL season continues this weekend with Hanley at Cudworth and Waldheim at Dalmeny on Friday, Hanley at Allan on Saturday, and Shellbrook at Waldheim on Sunday.
