Oct 22, 2025 | 12:39 PM

A man responsible for a stabbing incident outside a Prince Albert convenience store, has received a five-year prison sentence.

Julius Charles Bird appeared by video when his case was discussed Wednesday morning at provincial court. A guilty plea was entered to aggravated assault.

“This isn’t going to be tolerated or accepted,” Judge Healey told Bird, while also encouraging the 31-year-old to stay away from drugs and alcohol.

“You could do so many things with your life.”

On July 15, at 8:40 p.m., police were called to the 7-Eleven store on Second Ave W. A 25-year-old man was found outside the business with injuries consistent with a stabbing.

He was treated by Parkland Ambulance and transported to hospital for further medical care. There were injuries to multiple organs including the lungs and liver.

Through their investigation, officers were able to view video surveillance where Bird was observed approaching the victim, pulling something out of his waistband and then assaulting the victim before fleeing on foot.

Bird was later arrested in the 3300 block of Second Ave. W.

Upon a search of his person, two knives were located and seized.

The motive for the stabbing is unknown.

After completion of his prison sentence, Bird is prohibited for life from owning or possessing any weapons.

At the time of the offence, Bird was also on probation, and received a 30-day sentence for the breach charge which will run concurrently with the more serious conviction.
