‘They took the fun out of it’: Local frustrated by vehicle theft from restored truck

Oct 2, 2025 | 4:24 PM

A restored 1986 Dodge truck was parked on a main thoroughfare in Prince Albert under two lamp posts in a brightly lit area, but that didn’t stop brazen thieves from breaking into it to take what they could.

“They took an inexpensive socket set, unhooked and stole a stereo amplifier that was hidden under the seat and removed a very large, very heavy custom subwoofer enclosure from behind the seat. These were not in plain site,” said the owner, who asked not to be named out of concern for his privacy. “It took a great deal of effort to install the speaker, and it would not have come out that easy.”

Nor could someone have put it in a backpack and walked away. The truck owner guessed there had to be an accomplice and a getaway vehicle.

“They also took my case of about 25 to 30 retro 80’s CDs. Who even listens to CD’s anymore?”

The garage door opener had to be reprogrammed after the thieves stole the remote from the truck as well.

The frustration the truck owner felt isn’t isolated.

While the theft was of contents within the truck itself, the theft of vehicles is also on the rise. According to the Prince Albert Police Service, so far in 2025, there has been a nearly 17.5 per cent increase in vehicle thefts compared to last year. The warmer weather doesn’t appear to have had an impact on an increase in crimes of opportunity like vehicle thefts. Statistics show in September, there were only two more reported vehicle thefts (33) compared to the year prior (31).

The best way to prevent theft from vehicles is to always lock your car, close all windows, and remove any valuables or hide them. Park in well-lit areas or a secure garage and use anti-theft devices like steering wheel locks or alarms to deter thieves.

The owner of the truck in this latest theft is left feeling frustrated. He followed a lot of the crime prevention tips, but still became a victim.

“It’s sad because I spent a lot of years and money restoring my old truck. I like to drive it whenever I can…it’s not just for car shows…but someone took the fun out of it.”

Anyone with information on the stolen items connected to this theft is asked to contact local police.
