WWE and TNA star tours through Saskatchewan

A man who has worked for a number of big wresting companies including WWE and TNA, says he’s looking forward to meeting people in Saskatchewan.

Brian Kendrick is part of Canadian Wrestling’s Elite’s (CWE) latest tour that includes stops at Big River First Nation on Monday, Lac La Ronge on Tuesday and Prince Albert on Thursday.

Acknowledging the opportunities he’s had to be on television and perform for thousands of people, Kendrick said he also appreciates the more interactive opportunities that come with the independent circuit.

“For the most part I am a pretty bashful person who lives a pretty quiet life, but when I do interact with fans, I don’t mind it a bit,” he said.

Kendrick has been wrestling since 1999, and was trained in part at the Shawn Michaels’ wrestling academy – a man who has been referred to as one of the industry’s all time greats.

“I think he’s just wonderful inside the ring so yeah when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped on it and I was lucky enough to have it work out,” Kendrick said. “He was a superhero to me and then he was yelling at me when I was screwing up so it was intimidating, but it forced me to work hard.”

In addition to his career in the ring, Kendrick was later hired by WWE as a trainer and has helped sculpt a number of careers such as Eva Marie, Ronda Rousey and Saxon Huxley who is currently in Japan. Kendrick said seeing people he’s trained become successful is a big ego boost.

“I’ve been lucky enough to train some celebrities and they are a pleasure to work with and I thought they did great,’ he said.

During his time with WWE, Kendrick formed a tag team with Paul London and together they won a championship. Reflecting back on the lengthy championship run, Kendrick said he had a lot of fun.

“You know I was a young man in my early to mid 20’s and I was getting to travel the world as a part of a WWE tag team. It was a real neat experience and it turns out that that’s probably what I’m most remembered for even though it was before a lot of these kids were even born – the ones that are wrestling today, the younger generation,” he said.

As a singles’ competitor, Kendrick became known as “The Brian Kendrick”, a cocky and confident wrestler who had a special enforcer. He stated he had no trouble portraying the character.

“I’m a nervous person in general but when it comes to wrestling, my shadow comes out and I’m ultra confident. The more people there are, the easier it is for me to go out there and slip into that persona that I hide from the world.”

When asked about the matches he’s most proud of, Kendrick mentioned the series he had with Rich Swann as well as the tag team matches versus MnM.

The show in Prince Albert on Aug. 28 includes a tag team match between Kendrick and fan favourite CWE Central Canadian Champion CAM!!ikaze versus CWE Champion “Chizzled” Chad Daniels and “Lion Warrior” Bobby Sharp. Kendrick was asked what fans can expect.

“They can expect me to work my hardest to put on the best performance I can and hopefully see a great show overall,” he said.
