Riders to play preseason game in Saskatoon next year

Saskatchewan Roughrider fans in Saskatoon will be able to skip the drive down Highway 11 next year, as the Green and White will be playing a preseason game in the Bridge City.

The game will be played at Griffiths Stadium, which is already home to the team’s annual training camp. The date for the Saskatoon preseason game will be announced during the offseason, the team noted, along with the full 2026 schedule.

The last time a pre-season game was held in Saskatoon was 1991.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders President and CEO Craig Reynolds said the team is excited about the announcement, and the game makes sense logistically as players will already be in Saskatoon for training camp.

While there are no details as to which opposing team will play against the Riders yet, Reynolds said the scheduling process will kick off soon, noting it will be a Western Canadian team.

Reynolds said the Saskatoon pre-game can provide an opportunity for fans who haven’t had the chance to watch their team at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

“We want to make sure that we’re able to sort of attract that next generation of fans and give them an opportunity from Saskatoon to experience Rough Rider football,” he said.

The mayor of Saskatoon, Cynthia Block, said the city will be rolling out the “green carpet” for Roughriders fans, calling the event a chance to showcase how Saskatchewan “bleeds green.”

“We have rider fans in every province in this country and south of the border as well, so come home, come for a visit, we’re happy to host you,” she said.

“We’re happy to introduce you to foodie culture in Saskatoon and all of the amazing things that we have to do in a city that is growing up in a really special and unique way.”

According to a statement from the CEO of Discover Saskatoon, Stephanie Clovechok, major events such as these will fuel hotels, restaurants, and local businesses. Additionally, such events could create jobs, boost the economy and showcase Saskatoon on a “provincial and national stage.”

More games are also coming to Mosaic Stadium for the 2026 season, with 10 regular-season home games, according to the CFL.

Both Roughriders versus Argonauts games will be hosted in Regina for next season.
