Flash flooding disrupting traffic in Prince Albert

Aug 8, 2025 | 4:49 PM

Residents eager to get home and start their weekend will have a bit of a delay doing so, as some Prince Albert streets are underwater this afternoon following heavy rain.

The intersection of 2nd Avenue W and 28th Street W had major traffic delays as water was reported to be going over the hoods of vehicles. Tow trucks were on scene pulling out cars stuck in the water as the rain continued to fall.

South Industrial Area Drive was also underwater, along with the intersection of 2nd Avenue W and 15th Street W near Tim Hortons.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning around 8 a.m. on Friday, estimating that 50 to 75 mm is expected by the time the rain ends Sunday morning.

The Prince Albert Exhibition Association cancelled chuck wagon and chariot races due to the rain, while other shows and events are moving indoors, if possible. Both the Cooke Municipal Golf Course and the Kinsmen Swimming Pool are also closed due to heavy rain.
