Murder charge laid after death near West Hill homeless camp
The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is confirming the city’s fourth homicide investigation of 2025.
Lyle Ballantyne, 36, was found deceased on Thursday in an area known for a large homeless encampment. This is the second homicide this week after 39-year-old Wayne Keller was found deceased at Prince Albert’s rail yards on Tuesday afternoon.
Police have also arrested and charged a 56-year-old man with second-degree murder. He will make his first court appearance on Tuesday, August 5.
Thursday morning, at approximately 8:50 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of 39th Street West for a report of a suspicious person. Further information stated someone had potentially located a deceased person.
