FIRE BAN

City reinstates fire ban for northern part of Prince Albert

Jul 31, 2025 | 11:25 AM

UPDATE: The RM of Prince Albert also issued a fire ban on July 31, banning all open fires as of today.

All permits that were issued are now suspended and lighting or discharging fireworks is prohibited. The ban will last until it is lifted.

The RM of Spiritwood issued its own ban earlier on July 31, also effective immediately.

In addition to fire pits and other outdoor fires, no burning barrels, fire pits and fireworks are banned.

Propane and gas BBQs are still allowed.

The City of Prince Albert has reinstated a fire ban within city limits as a heat wave is set to blanket the province.

All areas within Prince Albert city limits north of the North Saskatchewan River are under a fire ban as of Aug. 1 at 8 a.m., including the areas of Little Red River Park, Hazeldell, Nordale, and all properties east of Little Red River Park to the city limits at the Pulp Haul Road.

The move comes as temperatures are set to hover around the high 20’s for the majority of the next seven days, with nothing but sun and a bit of rain in the forecast.

During the ban, any and all open fires are prohibited in these areas. However, self-contained heating devices, gas barbecues, propane fire pits, and charcoal briquettes used in an approved fire pit are allowed for cooking and heating purposes.

Fires are still allowed in the southern part of the city, but only in accordance with city bylaws. The use of fire pits, barbecues, propane heaters, and patio heaters is permitted only if they meet the requirements of Bylaw No. 15 in 2021. In fire pits, only charcoal or cut, seasoned wood is allowed.

The current fire ban does not include recreational use of approved fire pits in designated areas south of the river, such as Kinsmen Park.

The fire ban for the city’s northern area will remain in effect until further notice.
