Former Prince Albert Bishop passes away

Prince Albert’s Catholic community is in mourning following the loss of Most Reverend Albert Thévenot

A letter on Monday from the city’s current Bishop, Rev. Stephen A. Hero, confirmed Thévenot passed away April 13 at his home in Prince Albert from heart failure. He was 79.

A professed member of the Missionaries of Africa since 1975 and ordained a Priest in 1980, he served for many years in Tanzania and later held leadership roles on their General Council in Rome and as Provincial of their North American Province.

Appointed as the sixth Bishop of Prince Albert by Pope Benedict XVI, he was ordained Bishop on August 6, 2008, and shepherded the Diocese until his retirement 13 years later on March 25, 2021. At the time of his retirement, he was 75 years old.
