Meat Council brings Protein PACT to Canada

Mar 28, 2025 | 10:02 AM

The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) has created a sustainability framework for the country’s meat processing sector.

The goal of Protein PACT (People, Animals & Climate of Tomorrow) is to enhance sustainability practices across the industry, aligning with global standards while addressing issues of concern.

By adapting the framework for Canada, CMC is empowering Canadian meat processors to work together on shared sustainability goals and improve North American-wide practices.

CMC President & CEO Chris White said Canada’s red meat processing sector has sophisticated science-based practices.

“This initiative will provide a vehicle to broadly communicate these initiatives and demonstrate our leadership to key stakeholders,” he said.

Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts said uniting the industry under a common framework will ensure that Canada’s meat processors can continuously improve their operations to achieve the highest standards of sustainability and transparency.
