Prince Albert meth dealer receives two year sentence

Mar 25, 2025 | 3:02 PM

A woman who was selling meth in Prince Albert, as a means to pay for her own addiction, has received a two year jail sentence.

However with credit for pre-sentence custody, 38-year-old Chelsea Kakakaway has 233 days left to serve.

The sentencing hearing was held Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and the case itself dates back to April 2024 when members of the crime reduction team were surveilling a vehicle that made a series of stops across the city.

Kakakaway, who was behind the wheel, was arrested without incident after stopping at a residence in the West Flat.

According to facts read by Federal Crown Prosecutor Margaret Sproule, she was carrying a brown purse. When searched by officers, it was found to contain a cell phone, 14.6 grams of meth, a scale, and an open box containing baggies.

In addition to the custodial sentence, an order was also made prohibiting Kakakaway from owning or possessing any firearms or explosives for life.

Other resolved matters

In early January, 2024, Kakakaway was among a number of people arrested after a woman was beaten, stabbed and tortured at a downtown apartment building.

Kakakaway’s resulting charges from that incident have since been stayed by the Crown.

Also arrested on that matter was Shyanna Michel who, after entering guilty pleas to assault and confinement, received an 18-month conditional sentence order (CSO).

Ryan Morrison and Abby Abraham are scheduled to have their matters addressed on April 1, and both Joshua Goodvoice and Shyanne Bear have a trial on May 16.
