U.S. tariffs threaten greenhouse industry

Mar 21, 2025 | 12:00 PM

U.S. tariffs pose a big risk for Canada’s greenhouse sector, which relies heavily on exports south of the border.

Industry experts say Canada can’t consume all the extra produce that could be left in limbo because of the trade war.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada says the country exported about $1.7 billion dollars in greenhouse vegetables in 2023, mainly to the U.S.

Richard Lee of Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers says the few days that tariffs were in effect earlier this month cost the sector millions of dollars.
