Fire response

Early morning fire scorches Prince Albert’s longtime cabinet maker

Mar 21, 2025 | 12:00 PM

A longtime member of Prince Albert’s business community has suffered a huge loss.

Shortly after midnight, the Prince Albert Fire Department responded to the 400 block of 13th St. E. and more specifically the large metal shop that is owned by Hesje Cabinets and Design.

On arrival, fire crews experienced heavy smoke and flames. Firefighters were successful in confining and extinguishing the fire in one area of the building before it could spread to the rest of the structure.

“There was significant damage to a portion of the structure. No injuries reported on scene,” a statement on the fire department’s social media page said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears, without being officially confirmed, to have been sparked at a nearby encampment.

The fire early Friday morning was the second of its kind in less than 10 hours.

On Thursday, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the fire department responded to the intersection of 36th Street and 6th Avenue West for a fire in the bushes.

On arrival and investigation, there was a large encampment fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and there was no damage to report as a result.
