A group of Prince Albert bowlers will be representing Saskatchewan at Nationals in Surrey, B.C.

The second of two Masters qualifying tournaments was held this past weekend in Regina. Out of the 12 available spots between men’s and women’s teams, Prince Albert took nine of them.

On the ladies team: Cora-Lee White, Christa Buckle, Tamara Hamilton and Carol Paetsch

On the men’s team: Zach Nilson, Jack Mukli, Dallas Vandale and Michael Pelechaty

Also representing the province for men’s singles will be Justin Vansil who finished first in his division and won by three points.

“I have bowled Masters for years now, and this is my first time making it, so I am very excited and looking forward to going to nationals, especially with a majority of Prince Albert bowlers that I bowl with in leagues,” he said.

Vasil has an incredible comeback story. On the final day of the competition, he was fighting for a team spot and was tied for ninth.

“I found a rhythm and it felt great so I just kept rolling with it all day,” he said. “I bowled a 338 and had a good feeling I made the team. Afterwards guys starting coming up to me and saying I won by three, and I wasn’t sure what they meant until the final results came in and was shocked to see I actually clinched singles qualifier.”

The Nationals tournament will run June 22-28.
