Winter Festival President pleads for return of precious fur hat

Mar 9, 2025 | 10:03 AM

The President of the Prince Albert Winter Festival committee says she is deeply saddened by the loss of a fur hat.

The hat word by Bev Erickson was stolen during the final days of the festival and was made in 1964 by a woman at Cumberland House and gifted to Erickson’s mother-in-law.

“It’s been in the Erickson family for 60 years and I am very sad that it’s gone,” she told paNOW.

Erickson recalled how on the night of Feb. 20, she had completed a media interview and wore the hat for that evening, but then got hot when she was selling buttons at the door, took it off, and placed it on a nearby table.

Later that night, after completing a few other festival related tasks, she noticed the hat was gone. Initial checks behind the registration table and in her bag, both came up empty.

“So I asked the ladies that were working the bar because they were right there if they saw anyone come to the table, or if they saw anything, and nobody did,” Erickson said.

Erickson now hopes whoever takes the hat is willing to return it, with no questions asked. She added through email, they can make arrangements for a place to pick it or for the person to drop it off.

“I would just love to have it back,” she said.

Erickson’s email is pawf.president@gmail.com.
