Pat C’s cruise past Mintos in Game 3, P.A. eliminated from playoffs

The Prince Albert Mintos saw their season come to an end on Friday night at the hands of the Regina Pat Canadians.

P.A. made the trip down to the provincial capital for Game 3 of their best-of-five series where a five-goal second period from Regina proved the difference maker as the Pat C’s advanced to the Sask. Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) semifinals with a commanding 7-2 triumph.

The Mintos were up by one heading into the second after Lincoln Rogers found the back of the net to give the Green and Gold their first lead of the series.

However, the floodgates opened in the middle frame for the Pat Canadians as they fed P.A. a fistful, scoring five in the period including two from Prince Albert Raiders prospect Jonah Sivertson and one each from Maddox Schultz, Chase Surkan, and Eli Johnson.

Regina would extend the lead early in the third with two more goals from Boston Tait and Cooper Bratton to go up 7-1. Carter Bergen managed to add another for the Mintos late in the period, but the comeback efforts were too little, too late as Regina moves onto the second round.

P.A. netminder Josh Henry tallied 39 saves in the loss, with Regina’s Adam Muntain needing 19 stops for the win.

With their first-round victory, Regina will face the winner of Warman and Swift Current in the semifinals, where the Legionnaires currently hold a 2-1 series lead heading into Game 4 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, for Prince Albert, the series loss marks the fourth straight year the team has been eliminated in the first round, dating back to the 2021-22 season.
