With two losses in their last two games and the Prince Albert Raiders trying to clinch a playoff spot, the Raiders were in Swift Current to take on the Broncos on Saturday. The Raiders picked up a point, but a controversial non-call in overtime would lead to the Broncos game winner and a 4-3 Raiders loss.

After an early push from the Broncos in the first few minutes, the Raiders took control of the first period and had a 9-2 shot lead near the end of the period. The Broncos had one shift late where they put five shots on goal quickly, but the Raiders held strong by the end.

The Raiders powerplay went 0/2 on the powerplay with Aiden Oiring hitting a crossbar on a onetimer.

After 1: Raiders 0 – 0 Broncos, shots 9-7 Raiders

The Raiders would score the game’s first goal at the 4:27 mark when Niall Crocker sent the puck out of the zone to Ethan Bibeau. He entered the zone from the right and dropped the puck back for Rilen Kovacevic. He fired a pass towards the front of the net, trying to get a tip from Bibeau, but instead it hit a defender in front and hit the back of the net for Kovacevic’s 27th of the year.

The Broncos would get a late powerplay, but the Raiders would kill it off without much issue.

After 2: Raiders 1 – 0 Broncos, shots 9-9, 18-16 Raiders overall

At 9:13 mark, the Raiders would double their lead on the powerplay. After another Raiders crossbar, Lukas Dragicevic collected the puck at the middle of the blueline before sending it left from Tomas Mrsic. He’d give it to Brayden Dube to the left of the goal, and with the goaltender laying on his stomach, Dube flipped the puck over him to bank it off both posts for his 27th of the year.

Just 45 seconds later at the 9:58 mark, the Broncos would score their first off a shot from the point by Grayson Burzynski would hit the chest of Rylan Gould in front and into the back of the net.

At 13:05, the Raiders powerplay would score again. Justice Christensen started the play with a hold at the left point, and he’d pass it up the left wall for Kovacevic. He found a great seem through the middle and fed Ty Meunier on the back door, but the goalie got over quick and Meunier tried to pass it across for Riley Boychuk. Meunier’s pass hit the goaltender and slipped through, and Boychuk reached out to tap it into the back of the net for his 12th of the season.

The Broncos would get another one back with Burzynski firing another shot from the left point, but this one went in clean at 16:11.

With over two minutes left, the Broncos would tie the game at 19:03. Carlin Dezainde would circle towards the middle of the Raiders slot from the right side, and he’d fire to send the game to overtime.

After 3: Raiders 3 – 3 Broncos, shots 12-9 Raiders, 30-25 Raiders overall

The Raiders had a great chance in overtime when Mrsic and Oiring went up the ice on a 2-on-1 and Mrsic ripped a shot off the pad that bounced out to Oiring’s backhand, and his shot was denied on a great save by Reid Dyck.

The Raiders were putting momentum together in the offensive zone when Dube was hauled down trying to collect a loose puck, and that lead to a 2-on-1. Dezainde would drop the puck back for the third man in Hunter Mayo, and he’d fire to end the game in overtime.

FINAL (OT): Raiders 3 – 4 Broncos, shots 6-3 Raiders, 36-28 Raiders overall

The Raiders pick up one point, but it isn’t enough to secure a playoff spot yet. They’ll have a chance to do so against the Regina Pats on Tuesday in Prince Albert.
